February 28, 2022 "Research in Fluid Dynamics and Acoustics"
- 4:00 p.m.
- 100 Hancock Hall
- Dr. Louis Cattafesta, III, University Eminent Scholar & Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Florida State University
- Faculty Host: Dr. Craig Woolsey
Abstract: Professor Louis Cattafesta will provide an overview of his current research activities that largely focus on fluid dynamics and acoustics, with specific applications to flow control, aeroacoustics, and sustainable aviation. After providing an overview of current projects, he will highlight results from a few projects. First, active attenuation of a trailing vortex is discussed, which is relevant to both aircraft and maritime applications. Second, adaptive control of a laminar boundary layer using online Dynamic Mode Decomposition is summarized, covering aspects of fluid dynamics, controls, and data-driven modal analysis. Finally, he will briefly summarize recent results aimed at passive suppression of the radiated acoustic noise from a 30P30N high-lift, multi-element airfoil.
