Mauro Atalla is the Engineering & Technology leader at Collins Aerospace. In this role, Mauro oversees a highly skilled and accomplished network of over 20,000 engineers that spans more than 150 sites across 24 countries supporting a broad portfolio of products and services. He is responsible for engineering excellence in product development, technology innovation, product safety and cybersecurity, as well as the career development of Collins engineers. He also leads the company’s central engineering and applied research organizations.
Mauro joined RTX in 2000 as a staff engineer at the RTX Research Center. Since then, he has served in leadership roles of increasing responsibility across the former United Technologies commercial businesses and RTX’s Collins Aerospace business unit. Within Collins, Mauro has led several engineering efforts across a broad range of products and participated in the integration of engineering from the Goodrich Aerospace and Rockwell Collins acquisitions, as well as the United Technologies merger with the Raytheon Company.
Mauro is the author/co-author of several patents and peer-reviewed technical publications He serves on the Advisory Board of Virginia Tech’s Aerospace and Ocean Engineering department and has served on the Advisory Boards of University of Michigan’s Aerospace Engineering Department and Virginia Tech’s Department of Biomedical Engineering and Mechanics. In 2018, Mauro was recognized by Virginia Tech with its Graduate Alumni Achievement Award, in 2023 he was elected Fellow of the American Society of mechanical Engineers, and he was recognized by SAE International with its 2024 Influential Aerospace Executive Award.
