Cory Thompson, 2023

Cory Thompson is a “townie”.  Born and raised in Christiansburg, he has always thrived to provide excellent customer service in his professional endeavors.  He joined Aerospace and Ocean Engineering in 2016 as Operations Manager.

Cory received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree (Major: Economics) from Radford University in 2005; and then received his Master of Business Administration degree from Radford University in 2006.

Prior to joining AOE in 2016; he spent seven years in Virginia Tech’s Office of Sponsored Programs where he handled Post Award management of research contracts and grants for lots of departments at the university.  It’s in that role he started building relationships with the amazing AOE faculty – which is the main reason he wanted to work for the best department on campus.  Before working at the university, he spent two years in the private sector at Carter Machinery serving as Credit Analyst/Finance Assistant.

Cory has strived to do everything in his ability to strengthen AOE finances, hire the best staff to support our faculty, strategically enhance business procedures to streamline processes, and everything else under the sun to ensure the department’s success for its operations, research, and educational missions.

Cory looks forward to being a small part of the continued growth and success of AOE’s faculty, staff and students as they change the world!
